This Sunday is an anniversary of sorts for me. Nineteen years ago, I was oddly awakened with a start, early on a Sunday morning, and felt the urge to go to church. Having no background in church-going nor any Christian heritage, I was confused by this seemingly random feeling. It was one I could not resist.
That was the Sunday which changed the trajectory of my life forever and ever. I’d encourage you to read about that day when I received the most unexpected blessing.
Scripture has a lot to say about remembering what the Lord has done for us. In a day where complacency abounds and gratitude is lacking, Scripture calls us to remember and remember with a thankful heart.
The Old Testament is full of the negative consequences of chosen Israel’s forgetfulness.
“Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,
did not consider your wondrous works;
they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,
but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.” Ps. 106:7
“But they soon forgot his works;” Ps. 106:13
“They forgot God, their Savior,
who had done great things in Egypt,” Psalm 106:21
So I remember. I remember the mire which the Lord rescued me from. I remember the fear and hopelessness and anxiety which filled my every breath and threatened to drown me is a sea of darkness.
I remember His goodness, mercy, and love which He abundantly showered upon me. I remember the moment my stone-cold heart melted away. When I do, my heart rejoices in a fresh way at the grace which was, and continues to be, poured out upon me. Glory be to God!
How about you? Do you remember the wondrous works of the Lord in bringing you out of darkness and into His marvelous light? Maybe you’re still in darkness like I was? I invite you to consider this your nudge to get up on Sunday morning and find a Bible-preaching church to visit. May it change the trajectory of your eternity, as it did mine nineteen years ago.
Today I’m participating in Aliens & Pilgrims Something Brief, Something True where participants write short thoughts on a verse of Scripture. Drop on over and join in with your own thoughts on a favorite verse!

Great!
