Today I’m participating in Aliens & Pilgrims Something Brief, Something True with this thought:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
There is nothing like a little worry or fear to ruin a perfectly peaceful day. Sometimes these irritants creep in unaware. Silent and sly they take root, bearing fruit before we notice. Sometimes they intrude suddenly—an unwanted visitor barging through the front door—leaving us in panic, hearts in our stomach. Worry and fear are not our faithful friends, which is why Scripture commands us over and over again, “Fear not.”
Fear’s antithesis is peace. Here we find rest, quiet waters, stillness; no strife or storm. Like the moment Jesus spoke to the winds and waves, “Peace. Be still,” and a perfect calm settled on the lake. As I get older, I long for more of this, don’t you?
So how do we find this peace, when life is so busy and troubles lurk around any corner? We seek the Lord in his Word and in prayer. Paul knew much of life’s storms when he reminded us to not be anxious about anything, but in everything, pray and give thanks (Phil. 4:6).
Isaiah assures us with his words as well—stay your mind on the Lord.
Trust in our sovereign God is the certainty to peace.

I love these verses. Thanks for joining in!
