Advent. Waiting.

Waiting is not an act we digital-age instant-access-addicts like to engage in. But the season to reflect upon the non-action verb of delay requiring patience is upon us.

Tomorrow is the first day of Advent. Beginning the fourth Sunday before Christmas, it is the season of reflection and remembrance for Christians. We remember our Savior who came according to God’s promises so long ago, as we await His return one day in the future, also as promised in His Word.

We reflect while we wait.

Advent is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as “the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event; the second coming of Christ”

We reflect upon who this notable person is.

Jesus, God made flash, came the first time humble, gentle and lowly, to proclaim the good news, to save His people from their sins. The first time He came, He came to die. – die for our sins.

Hope secure, we now wait.

Jesus will come again one day. His arrival will neither be humble nor quiet. All will know of His arrival, and it will be a day of great dread for those who don’t know Him. He will come in glory and judgement to make all things new. This is the day we who are born again wait for, hope for.

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:2

In reflecting upon this, I wrote this Haiku – a non-rhyming poem of few words but of a particular rhythm. May you be blessed as you remember and reflect upon your gracious Savior, Jesus Christ, this Advent season.
